001: Unlearning, SPICY’s first print zine, is a retrospective of the essays, op-eds, and art that emanated from our community. 001 uses the concept of “unlearning” to reverse the colonialist ideals we have internalized our entire lives, while simultaneously setting the foundation to reimagine the world we want to live in. The cover, which is an homage to iSpy books, also showcases the tools we use to “unlearn.”

SPICY, created in February 2018, is an online zine and creative collective led by women of color (WoC) and queer + trans people of color (QTPoC). Our mission is to create a platform empowering WoC + QTPoC to create, express, debate, learn, unlearn, and ultimately decolonize the media — a space that doesn’t always include us.
